Jaime Saavedra. Una lección sobre la pandemia

After this pandemic, the school will be different. In large part this is because many actors —parents, teachers, the media, the government, and others— will have changed their views and perceptions of their own role in the educational process. This change in mentality will be fundamental to the future of education systems.

Parents now understand better the need to work together with schools to support their children's education.

Teachers now understand better the importance of digital technologies, and that digital skills are essential.

The media, now, understand better the critical role that television and radio continue to play in people's lives and in the educational process.

But a fundamental lesson of this pandemic, for government and societies, is that we have an even greater understanding of the immense equity gaps that exist in education systems.

Jaime Saavedra, currently Director of the World Bank's Global Education Practice and former Minister of Education of Peru (2013-2016), analyzes the causes of educational imbalances and launches some proposals to address it.
