La fuerza del bien Rémi Brague

The thoughts of the French philosopher Rémi Brague are always interesting. That is why from buscarcole.com we want to share them.

In a conference at the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences of Madrid, in 2019, Rémi Brague spoke about "The force of good".

What kind of good do we need? We do not need a weak good, such as, for example, the one represented by certain American concepts, which are now global: fun, nice, ok, cool. With this type of good we can live, but we cannot call life to that which does not yet exist. For an adequate reproduction activity of the human species to take place, it is necessary that we have a strong conception of what good is. A strong good that would be, according to the medieval doctrine of the transcendentals, identical with being. What truly exists must be fundamentally, deeply, a good.

Man is fundamentally free, he is a mysterious being. Every person is a mystery. I used to tell my students at university that there is nothing mysterious about the concept of mystery in a classroom where I teach. There are 30-40 mysteries here, because you can't know what is in people's heads. There is only one way: ask what they think. We are essentially hidden beings. Now I read a lot of essays by people who try to say what is human and what is not.

He also spoke about populism, nationalism and patriotism, Pope Francis, etc.
