Most families are interested in choosing the best school possible. And this will be more feasible if we take into account the following aspects in order to be clear about what we consider most important and what best fits our expectations.

Ideology or educational project

There is a great variety of schools with different ideologies and projects. It is very important to evaluate if the way the school works fits with the way our family works.

From what I have been able to confirm during all these years, when the family and the school work together, learning is much greater and much better. It is important that we like the school because the families, especially our sons and daughters, will enjoy it or suffer it for a long time.

Location

Living close to the school is an important criterion, especially in large cities or outlying areas. Otherwise, our children's school day increases considerably with travel and complicates family organization.

From a social perspective, keeping friendships within a radius close to the usual home is interesting because it makes it easier to maintain ties, even outside the school environment. In addition, they will soon be able to travel independently.

Small or large school?

Small schools (single-track or rural) are more familiar and everyone knows each other. Attention is more personalized and allows for better attention to diversity, respecting maturational processes, interests and learning rhythms.

Larger schools tend to have better facilities and offer more services, resources and alternatives. Teaching tends to be more standardized.

Which is better for our daughter or our son? This is the question we need to answer.

Diversity

An inclusive and diverse classroom is positive both for the student with special educational needs (whether due to disorders, learning difficulties or other characteristics) and for the rest of the boys and girls, who learn to know and respect difference.

A center with a diversity of students and families tends to be more open and provides more opportunities for the harmonious growth of boys and girls, favoring equity, social cohesion and coexistence.

Price

Public schools are subsidized by public bodies.

In the subsidized centers, families assume a % of the costs, while public organizations subsidize others.

Private schools are financed exclusively by family fees.

It should be noted that a school's tuition does not have a significant relationship with the quality of teaching. There are excellent schools in all three types of schools.

Secular school or religious school?

Opting for a secular school or a religious school is an important aspect to take into account and it is also much better if it is congruent with the family's conviction.

Complementary activities offered

It is also important to consider if the complementary activities offered by the school (dining room, outings, parties, summer camps, relationship with the environment, morning reception, extracurricular activities...) are adapted to our needs and interests.
